Job Description:

This Operations Manager position is responsible for overseeing day-to-day workshop and production operations, with accountability for performance, cost, quality, and delivery. You will lead a team of fabricators and welders while working closely with the directors to ensure the operational function is efficient, safe, and commercially sound.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manage end-to-end workshop operations and production schedules
  • Deliver projects on time and to required quality standards
  • Drive operational efficiencies across people, processes, and equipment
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles to streamline workflows and reduce waste
  • Take ownership of the operations function and its outcomes
  • Contribute to and manage P&L outcomes for the operations area
  • Oversee purchasing of materials and consumables to meet production requirements
  • Manage and enhance daily operations and team performance
  • Lead Quality Assurance, including ITPs, MDRs, and inspection processes
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements and reporting obligations
  • Undertake estimations and project management for incoming and ongoing work
  • Guide the business to ensure operations are structured, supported, and well managed

Requirements:

  • Qualified boilermaker, welder or fabricator
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a workshop or manufacturing environment at supervisor, production or operations level
  • Experience in leading and managing a workshop/production team
  • Experience with ERP systems and production scheduling
  • Practical application of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement
  • Exposure to P&L, budgeting, and cost control for operations
  • Experience with purchasing, inventory, and supply chain for a fabrication environment
  • Strong understanding of OHS, risk management, and compliance
  • Experience with ITPs, MDRs, QA systems and inspection processes
  • Background in estimations and project management for fabrication or similar projects
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to train, mentor, and develop team members
  • Must have working rights that align with long-term employment requirements in Australia
