As an Operating Engineer at JLL, you'll be at the heart of our facility operations, ensuring critical building systems run safely, efficiently, and reliably. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with proactive problem-solving to maintain optimal performance across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and central utility plant systems. Job Responsibility:
Operate and monitor high-pressure steam systems and central utility plant equipment, recording readings and making adjustments to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency
Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, plumbing, electrical systems, and fire/life safety equipment to maintain building standards
Conduct regular inspections of building systems, identifying potential issues before they become problems and ensuring compliance with all applicable government and regulatory requirements
Respond promptly to customer service requests and emergency situations including fire alarms, chemical spills, and hazardous conditions, taking appropriate corrective action
Enforce and demonstrate safety protocols daily, identify and assess safety hazards, participate in incident investigations, and maintain a clean and safe workplace
Coordinate with and monitor outside contractors to ensure quality work and competitive pricing while reviewing monthly service request summaries to address recurrent operational issues
Maintain accurate records of equipment performance, maintenance activities, and system adjustments while utilizing computerized maintenance management systems
Requirements:
High school diploma or state equivalent plus minimum of two years of college or related trade school education
Minimum of four years of hands-on experience operating and maintaining high-pressure steam systems
City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License (active and in good standing)
EPA Universal Certification for refrigerant handling
Current membership in good standing with Local 399
Valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record
Ability to lift minimum of 80 lbs., climb ladders up to 30 ft., work from heights including rooftops, and perform physically demanding tasks including frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and overhead work
Nice to have:
Demonstrated aptitude and practical experience with thermodynamic, electrical, and mechanical systems in commercial or industrial settings
Proficiency with computer-controlled building automation systems and energy management platforms
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel for documentation and reporting
Experience reviewing and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
Background in troubleshooting complex HVAC systems and optimizing energy consumption
Strong customer service orientation with ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders
