An opportunity has arisen for an Oncology Specialist to join a well-established cancer service in South East England. The successful candidate will work within a large multidisciplinary oncology team delivering comprehensive cancer care across multiple tumour sites. This role is ideal for clinicians seeking to develop further their oncology expertise, including systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) and radiotherapy, while contributing to service development, education, and clinical governance.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver outpatient oncology clinics, providing specialist assessment, treatment planning, and follow-up care for cancer patients
Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, contributing to collaborative decision-making across tumour sites
Prescribe and oversee systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT), including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted treatments
Provide oversight of radiotherapy planning, including participation in planning, peer review, and treatment delivery
Undertake ward reviews for oncology patients, including management of treatment-related complications and acute presentations
Supervise non-medical staff, including clinical nurse specialists and allied health professionals
Perform clinical administrative duties, including documentation, patient communication, and liaison with primary care and multidisciplinary teams
Participate in clinical governance activities, including audit, incident reporting, and quality improvement initiatives
Contribute to ongoing service development and innovation within the oncology department
Take an active role in teaching and training junior doctors, trainees, and non-medical staff
Engage in leadership and development opportunities within the division
Requirements:
Basic medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
Postgraduate qualification (FRCR Clinical Oncology or recognised equivalent)
Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise
Minimum of 12 years' medical experience, including at least 6 years in a relevant oncology speciality at Speciality Doctor/SAS level or equivalent
Experience working in oncology services across a range of tumour sites at a senior level
Experience in both radiotherapy and systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT)
Experience supervising multidisciplinary or multiprofessional oncology teams
Understanding of clinical risk management
Evidence of commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive practice
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
Ability to organise workload and prioritise clinical needs effectively
Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
Understanding of NHS structures, clinical governance, and resource management
Evidence of commitment to teaching and training

Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
