An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Oncologist with a specialist interest in Breast, Upper Gastrointestinal (Upper GI), and Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) cancers to join a highly regarded and research-active Oncology service in the East of England. This substantive Consultant post has been created as part of service expansion and succession planning. It offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary cancer network that delivers high-quality, evidence-based patient care.
Job Responsibility
Deliver Consultant-led Oncology services for Breast, Upper GI, and HPB cancers
Participate in multidisciplinary tumour site MDTs
Deliver Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) with or without Radiotherapy responsibilities
Manage new patients and follow-up oncology clinics
Provide ongoing inpatient and outpatient cancer care within a multidisciplinary framework
Participate in the Oncology on-call rota (approximately 1:13)
Contribute to clinical governance, audit, appraisal, quality improvement, and risk management initiatives
Participate in departmental teaching, education, and research activities
Support development of clinical pathways and service improvements
Participate in Consultant Staff Committee activities and departmental meetings
Contribute to Oncology ward rounds and acute oncology services
Requirements
Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT, CESR, or equivalent route
MRCP(UK) or equivalent qualification
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Commitment to service development, teaching, and patient-centred care
Training and expertise in safeguarding
Flexible approach to working arrangements
Full Driving Licence
Nice to have
Higher postgraduate qualification, such as an MD or a PhD
Research experience or published work in Oncology
Previous involvement in service improvement initiatives
Management and leadership experience
Additional specialist tumour interests compatible with departmental needs
