Ensure the project adheres to international best practices in Environment, Social, Health, and Safety (ESHS) standards, with a focus on donor compliance and on-site implementation.
Job Responsibility:
Implement and monitor the project's Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) and Health & Safety plans
Conduct regular environmental and safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments
Ensure compliance with international donor agency (e.g., World Bank) ESHS standards and national regulations
Lead site safety meetings, incident investigations, and deliver ESHS training to staff and contractors
Prepare and submit ESHS performance reports to management and stakeholders
Requirements:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety)
12+ years of overall professional ESHS experience
8+ years of specific, hands-on experience implementing Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) and conducting audits for internationally-financed projects (e.g., World Bank, AfDB)
In-depth knowledge of international ESHS standards and donor safeguard policies
Strong practical experience in risk assessment, incident management, and on-site ESHS supervision
Nice to have:
A post-graduate degree in a relevant field
Proven accomplishment in areas such as community liaison, biodiversity management, occupational health systems, and emergency response planning
