The OB Technician (OBT) provides support to the RN and the Physician in the care of obstetric patients. The OBT performs OR procedures following department standards. The OBT is responsible to assist the physician on all cesarean and vaginal deliveries. The OBT is responsible for ensuring necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment are available for cesarean or vaginal procedures. The OBT also assists with escorting patients to triage rooms, taking specimens to the lab, if applicable, transfer of patients, and discharging of patients.

Demonstrates the ability to prioritize, organize and plan for necessary equipment, supplies and instruments
Emphasizes family centered care
During spontaneous vaginal deliveries (SVD) and cesarean section (C-section) births, demonstrates knowledge of and ability to maintain the sterile environment
Accurately enter physician's orders and charges into computer system
Demonstrates ability to follow directions and contributes to problem solving and conflict resolution
Answer call lights and main entrance to locked unit
Accurately transport specimens to the lab or cardiopulmonary lab
Perform all non-clinical duties as related to patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
