Job Description:

The Department of Health Services (DHS) Division of Quality Assurance (DQA), Bureau of Nurse Home Resident Care (BNHRC) is recruiting for a Nursing Home Surveyor for the Northwest Regional office (Eau Claire Region) to help ensure Wisconsin residents receive top quality care. This position works remotely, requires approximately 75% statewide travel, and works a flexible schedule with the option of four 10-hour workdays.

Job Responsibility:

  • Ensuring compliance with standards and rules in the following areas: admissions, transfers and discharges
  • resident rights
  • staffing and census
  • quality of care assessment
  • quality of life assessment
  • resident care plans
  • social, psychological and rehabilitative services
  • provision of medical services
  • and therapeutic activity programming
  • Providing expertise to the survey team in the areas identified above and serving as team coordinator as designated
  • Investigating complaints and conducting follow-up and surveillance visits

Requirements:

  • Experience participating in an investigation or compliance review (e.g., conducting interviews, collecting information, writing reports based on findings, etc.)
  • Experience interpreting and applying state or federal healthcare regulations
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting
  • Experience using Microsoft Office computer programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook for data entry and report production, document creation, correspondence, etc.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in social service or advocacy work for elderly or disabled populations
  • Experience with regulatory, legal, public health, or medical investigations
  • Experience with a state or federal health care survey process (e.g., completing resident assessments/care planning, conducting quality assurance audits or monitoring, determining compliance, investigating complaints, etc.)

  • Prepares State licensing findings, reviews facility comments to such findings and determines and prepares licensing violations when appropriate
  • Reviews complaint packages, survey documents and narrative reports to ensure that complaints have been adequately investigated addressing all complainant allegations
  • Consults with Department and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrative and legal staff concerning nursing home survey results, nursing care and enforcement actions
  • Travels to conduct nursing home surveys as a nurse surveyor to determine compliance with State and Federal regulations and/or attends required training to maintain survey skills
  • Answers phone inquiries from the public regarding nursing homes and regulations and inquiries from nursing home providers regarding regulations and the regulatory process
  • Processes Federal statements of Deficiency and Plans of Correction for inclusion on the Federal and Department websites
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
