We are seeking a passionate, dedicated, and experienced Nursery Room Leader to join our team in Forest Row on a permanent basis. In this role, you will balance high-quality childcare with team leadership, taking ownership of your room to create a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment where children thrive. You will be the driving force behind your room's daily operations, inspiring your staff team while building strong, trusting relationships with parents and caregivers.
Job Responsibility
Leading the staff team, acting as direct manager and role model
Delegate daily tasks and mentor junior staff or apprentices
Manage room logistics, including shift covers and staff-to-child ratios
Ensure adherence to nursery policies and procedures
Oversee and guide educational planning aligning with EYFS
Create a stimulating, safe, and age-appropriate learning environment
Monitor quality of learning and play, introducing creative ideas
Hold Key Person responsibility for a group of children, tracking development
Maintain learning diaries, observations, and progress profiles
Assess developmental milestones and identify children needing extra support
Serve as primary point of contact for parents and caregivers
Manage daily drop-off and pick-up handovers
Lead formal parent-teacher meetings
Maintain compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations
Oversee risk assessments, safety checks, and allergen management
Act with vigilance regarding child protection, reporting concerns immediately
Requirements
Minimum Level 3 qualification in Childcare/Early Years (or equivalent)
Proven experience working in an early years setting, ideally with previous experience leading a room or mentoring staff
Deep understanding of the EYFS framework, child development, and safeguarding/child protection procedures
Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills
A warm, positive, and resilient attitude is essential
