The Nursery Manager will play a critical role in managing all nursery within the forest reserve. This role encompasses all nursery operations, with a strong focus on sustainable practices and native Miombo seedling production and integration with carbon projects developed in the various forest reserves.
Job Responsibility:
Manage, plan and organize all nursery activities, including seedling production, care and maintenance, with a focus on the production of native forest seedlings (Miombo) and seedlings of commercial forest species (Pinus, Eucalyptus, African Mahogany, etc.) and agroforestry species
Coordinate work teams to ensure high quality standards, appropriate to the needs of reference projects
Skill and scientific knowledge to develop advanced research to produce improved seedlings, using modern cloning and grafting techniques
Develop and implement sustainable practices, with a focus on reducing environmental impact and integrating with project objectives
Collaborate with other managers and field teams to align nursery activities with forestry and management objectives
Collaborating with local communities, government agencies, and environmental organizations to ensure the alignment of forestry activities with broader conservation and sustainability objectives
Responsible for the administration, logistics, maintenance, safety, firefighting and fire prevention of the nursery areas
Requirements:
A bachelor's or master’s degree in forestry, agronomy, biology, or a related field
Proven expertise in nursery management, specifically in native species (MIOMBO) and commercial forestry
Demonstrated ability in managing nursery operations, with a focus on sustainability practices
Strong leadership abilities to manage diverse teams and operations, ensuring effective implementation of nursery activities
Proficiency in English is essential
A valid international driving license is preferred
Willingness to travel in Africa (if needed)
Nice to have:
Knowledge of local African languages or Portuguese is a significant advantage
