Job Description:

Supplemental Night Nurse Shift Manager - Surgical Acute. Our 32-bed Trauma Med/Surg Unit receives direct admits from our Emergency Department and transfers from our TICU. The unit is equipped with a monitoring system (a camera/monitor in the patients room), which allows a video monitor tech (VMT) to communicate via microphone with the patient in the room or, if needed, activate an alarm to alert staff. Besides the opportunity to learn via classes, our Trauma Surgeons are very supportive in helping with staff education to allow RNs to be more comfortable and confident in managing Trauma patients. Our Nurse Shift Manager positions give you the opportunity to expand your leadership skills.

Job Responsibility:

  • Supervises nursing staff assigned to a particular shift
  • Assigns patients to available nursing staff, taking into consideration the patient's condition and the employee's skill level
  • Assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care
  • Institutes emergency procedures as necessary
  • Anticipates staffing needs and moves proactively to respond to them
  • Oversees stocking of supplies and updating patient records to ensure that the nursing floor is ready for subsequent shifts

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (e.g., ADN)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical (critical care) experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Current CA RN licensure
  • Current BLS from the American Heart Association
  • Completion of Bachelors in nursing (BSN) or related field within 3 years of hire

Nice to have:

Current Bachelors in nursing (BSN) or related healthcare field preferred

  • Contribute to the development of an expanded scope of nursing practice
  • Maintain a high standard of professional behaviour and be accountable for own practice
  • Be aware of ethical policies and procedures which pertain to area of practice
  • Engage with redeployment when deemed necessary by senior nursing management for service continuity, service provision and patient safety
  • Adhere to NMBI Guidance on Medication Administration
  • Ensure that controlled drug records are kept in accordance with standard recognised legal and professional practice
  • Keep accurate, comprehensive, up-dated records and written reports as required and guided by NMBI recommendations
  • Document all necessary assessments, interventions and care provided on the Meditech Patient information system
