Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center, located in beautiful Northeast Florida, is actively seeking a skilled and compassionate Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (NP/PA)hematology/oncology inpatient team to join our dynamic within the Division of Cancer Medicine.
Job Responsibility:
Perform initial hematology/oncology consults and provide ongoing daily management and follow-up for hospitalized patients
Co-manage patients admitted to the heme/onc service in collaboration with onco-hospitalists, attending physicians, and multidisciplinary teams
Assess, diagnose, and manage acute oncologic and hematologic complications, including treatment-related toxicities, neutropenic fever, oncologic emergencies, and symptom burden
Support the care of patients undergoing inpatient chemotherapy and cellular therapy, including pre-treatment evaluation, monitoring during therapy, and post-treatment management
Coordinate care transitions, including discharge planning, patient and caregiver education, and communication with outpatient oncology teams and infusion services
Collaborate closely with nursing, pharmacy, case management, palliative care, and consulting services to ensure safe, evidence-based, patient-centered care
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, protocol development, and adherence to institutional and national oncology care standards
Provide consistent on-site coverage for the inpatient hematology/oncology service, including weekend/holiday call coverage schedule
Manage a dynamic patient census with varying acuity, prioritizing timely consult response and daily rounding
Document thoroughly in the electronic medical record and ensure compliance with regulatory and billing requirements
Respond to urgent clinical changes, rapid assessments, and coordination of escalations of care when necessary
Engage in multidisciplinary rounds and family discussions, delivering compassionate communication regarding goals of care and treatment plans
Maintain strong collaboration with outpatient oncology teams to ensure continuity across the care continuum
Requirements:
Master's Degree
Current Florida licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA)
National certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Nice to have:
1-2 years of experience as a first assist or RNFA preferred
