Position Summary/ Department Summary: Our 22-bed MICU at Boston Children’s Hospital is dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients spanning the age continuum. We manage a wide range of diagnoses, including respiratory failure & complex respiratory disease progression, septic shock, heart failure, diabetic ketoacidosis, metabolic crises, post-lung transplant care, and patients with chronic medical complexity. We are a close-knit group committed to empowering autonomous practice in our nurse practitioners to actively participate in bedside care and make crucial management decisions. This position is part of a flexible staffing model. While the primary home department is the MICU, there is an expectation to provide cross-coverage support in the MSICU during periods of operational need. This model is designed to support patient care demands across critical care services while promoting professional growth and skill development across units.
Job Responsibility:
Providing front-line care and coordination for complex, critically ill patients in the MICU, including assessment, diagnosis, pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, bedside procedures, and family-centered care
Collaborating and consulting with acute care providers and interdisciplinary team members on all assigned inpatients during daily rounds
Managing assigned patients throughout the course of the day
Participating in ongoing research and quality improvement initiatives
Facilitating patient/family and multidisciplinary team education
Provide clinical coverage in the MSICU as needed, based on unit staffing and patient care needs
Working 40 hours per week, rotating day/night shifts and a maximum of every third weekend
Requirements:
A Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or a Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies
A minimum of 2 years of Pediatric ICU experience
MA licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse PNP or FNP or Physician Assistant
Nice to have:
1-2 years of pediatric acute care NP or PA experience is preferred
new graduates will also be considered with previous ICU experience
