Under the direction of the Medical Director of the Moores Cancer Center Infusion Center, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) will function as a provider of patient care for patients receiving treatment in the Infusion Center. The NP will provide patient care oversight, including management of toxicities and/or reactions to IV treatments. Direct supervision will occur by assigned medical oncologists. Requires a strong emphasis on the management of patients undergoing cancer and non-cancer related treatments, including clinical trials, BMT, chemotherapy, biologic and immunotherapies.
Job Responsibility:
Function as a provider of patient care for patients receiving treatment in the Infusion Center
Provide patient care oversight, including management of toxicities and/or reactions to IV treatments
Provide patient care coverage for our various Moores Cancer Center infusion locations
Requirements:
Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program
California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification
National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area (FNP, AGACNP,or ACNP required)
Current ART certification, or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date
One (1) or more of recent work experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner in heme/onc, infusion, and/or internal medicine with a strong focus on patients with hematologic or oncologic conditions
Proven ability to perform initial history, and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action
Demonstrated knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures used in a clinic setting
Must understand purpose, required supplies and/or equipment, how to perform procedure accurately, infection control, an accurate documentation of medical chart
Demonstrates advanced clinical judgment and critical thinking skills to assess and manage patients in an oncologic outpatient setting
Demonstrates ability to independently manage patients in a fast-paced setting, using evidence-based clinical judgment and appropriate escalation of care
Experience coordinating multidisciplinary care
Strong verbal and written communication and documentation skills, with the ability to guide care teams and educate patients and families. Consistently demonstrates professionalism, empathy, and kindness to staff and patients
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs
Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years
