Job Description:

FSH RN Med Surg PRN (Internal Only)s are an integral part of the surgical team, providing essential nursing care to patients during surgical cases. Their role requires a high level of accuracy and professionalism in a fast-paced surgical environment. FSH RN Med Surg PRN (Internal Only)s are responsible for ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care during surgery. Their ability to maintain a professional approach while providing nursing care is critical in ensuring positive patient outcomes while keeping patients and their families informed. Will work directly with surgeons, medical/surgical staff and post-acute caregivers to create comprehensive patient care from pre- to post-op.

Job Responsibility:

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform interventions and provide services to the level of licensure as defined by the Nurse Practice Act of the Board of Registered Nursing of California
  • Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes: pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population
  • Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient's response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patients needs
  • Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations
  • Able to interpret data about the patients status in order to identify each patients age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies
  • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors
  • Communicates with Social Service/Discharge Planner regarding both in hospital and post discharge needs
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
  • Demonstrates ability to use SBAR Format when giving report from any other medical professional
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited registered nursing program
  • One year of acute care experience
  • Ability to maintain collaborative working relationships to ensure a positive and productive work environment
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and proficiency of hospital information technology applications
  • Current California nursing license
  • ACLS and BLS Certificate required
