Reporting to the Director of Operations and Nurse Manager working with assigned physicians, the Nurse Lead is responsible for the Company’s clinical practice and delegated medical acts. The role requires close collaboration with attending physicians and excellent communication with clinic staff and patients. The Nurse Lead will participate in establishing and maintaining standards of practice, policies, and procedures at Anova Fertility and Reproductive health. In addition to being responsible for Anova’s nursing services, the Lead will also perform procedures on a regular basis and be directly involved in training new and junior employees. Crucially, the incumbent shares the Founder, Dr. Marjorie Dixon’s commitment to being the gold standard for successful reproductive health and fertility centres.

Participates in cycle monitoring, documents instructions given to patients, and offers counselling and support as needed
Contacts patients with test results and medication instructions from physicians
Performs artificial intrauterine insemination and administers injections
Provides follow-up instructions to patients, explains program in detail, and provides further information and literature packages as required
Sends all pertinent patient information to IVF Centres to book procedures and coordinates with covering physician, Embryology laboratory and patients
Works toward ultimate goal of attaining highest possible patient satisfaction and least adverse effects, ideally reflected in positive online reviews
Participates in professional associations at regional/national and international levels for networking purposes and to gain additional knowledge
Supports the Nurse Manager in directing, supervising, and coordinating daily work of nursing staff by scheduling and coordinating assignments, including weekend and stat holiday coverage
Contribute to a healthy, safe, and respectful work environment
Fosters environment of teamwork, develops talent, and builds team members’ professional knowledge
Supports and mentors team members toward taking on greater responsibility
Meets with team members regularly to review progress, look ahead
Presents training and staffing recommendations to CEO for consideration
Participates in recruitment and interview process and provides input into selection of all nursing staff, in conjunction with supervisor
Assists with probationary and annual performance appraisals for direct reports
Keeps up to date on matters relating to employment law and HR practices
Ensures that nursing staff have necessary licensing and life-saving certification and requests evidence of such annually
Participates in development of policies, procedures and standards, as these relate to treatment of infertility patients and their families
Develops and maintains all nursing policy and procedure manuals as required and ensure all nursing staff review and sign off on these changes, when made.
Assists with planning and implementation of changes within assisted reproductive therapies services
Participates in appropriate staff committees such as quality control, fire safety, WHMIS, and Ethics, as required
Supports the Nurse Manager to liaise with Finance Department and assists in preparation of MOH reports for funded IVF cases
Identifies and addresses any issues with Nurse Manager and makes any necessary changes to nursing policies and procedures as a result
Assists Nurse Manager to prepare site for visitation by IHF, OHPIP, Health Canada or any other licensing body that Anova Fertility depends on for certification and licensing
Prepares orders of drug supplies for review by supervisor based on upcoming patient needs in Clinic and IVF Centre and ensures inventory records are kept according to the mandate of the CPSO
Prepares orders for medical supplies based on upcoming patient needs in Clinic and IVF Centre
Monitors drug inventory expiry dates and arrange for safe discarding of expired medication
Support Nurse Manager to meet and assess KPIs.
Ensure nursing staff are following protocols as outlined by Nurse Manager, Director of Operations and/or Medical Director.
Report issues and/or near misses to Nurse Manager and works to develop solutions.
Act as coverage for Nurse Manager when needed.
Requirements:
College diploma or BScN
Current certificate of registration with CNO in good standing
Member in good standing of RNO
At least five (5) years of experience in assisted reproductive technologies or gynecology, with track record of success in recruiting, training, and supervising staff, ideally in facility governed by OHPIP or IHF
Current BCLS/ACLS, CPR, First Aid certification
Solid knowledge of accreditation/inspection processes
Comfortable with MS Office and virtual meeting technology (Teams)
Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Ability to discuss difficult and complex topics with patients and verify that information has been understood
Ability to manage conflicting demands (e.g., unexpected procedure time changes, equipment availability)
Availability and willingness to work outside of regular business hours
