Performs designated basic patient care and related nursing tasks to provide optimal/quality care consistent with Hospital mission and Nursing philosophy, goals, standards, and bylaws. Assists the Licensed Nurse in the implementation of nursing care in predictable, uncomplicated, and stable patient situations as directed.
Job Responsibility:
Performs designated basic patient care and related nursing tasks
Assists the Licensed Nurse in the implementation of nursing care
Observes and reports the patient's general appearance/behavior/response to basic care, procedures, and treatments
Obtains and documents patient vital signs, heights/weights, fluid intake/output
Collects specimens as directed
Maintains patient care environment in a safe and organized manner
Assists patient with elimination activities
Provides hygiene and comfort measures
Performs and documents therapeutic measures
Checks, turns, and repositions patients
Provides 1:1 monitoring of patients as directed
Prepares patient for meals and assists or feeds patient
Assists in the admission/transfer/discharge process
Assists patient in ambulation and transfer
Maintains unit and patient care environment in a clean and neat manner
Answers call lights
Assists in standard pre-operative/post-operative care procedures
Performs surgical/orthopedic skin preps and surgical scrubs
Performs post-mortem care
Demonstrates initiative in seeking out patient care/unit maintenance tasks
Assists the licensed nurse with communication with physicians, other staff and family members
Ensures excellent customer service to patients
Promotes a positive work environment
Attends/participates in staff meetings and continuing education
Reviews memos/communication to maintain current knowledge
Upholds a professional working relationship
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required
Successful completion of a state Board of Nursing Aide 1 with plus 4 skills approved training program
Nurse Aide I Registration
BLS Course C, CPR Certification required per policy guidelines
Emergency Department experience required
Ability to hear, speak, and comprehend English language required
Ability to understand verbal/written communication skills required
Basic computer skills required
Successful completion of General Hospital Orientation and demonstration of competency in the Nursing Assistant functions
Acquires/Maintains NA 1 plus 4 skills upon hire
Physical requirements include lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, gripping, bending, standing, walking, visual acuity, sense of smell, sense of touch, manual finger dexterity
