North End Literacy Outreach Worker

• Identify and connect with other programs within the community and support community literacy development activities
• Build strong relationships with local community partners to pursue joint program delivery plans
• Recruit and facilitate volunteer tutors and adult learners at the north end
• Work as a tutor to our adult learners
• Be involved in specialized projects and events
• Must have a vehicle and be willing to travel

• Three to five years experience in community development
• Relevant post-secondary education and/or experience related to literacy and community learning
• Knowledge and understanding of literacy and community-based planning processes, and understanding of capacity and strength-building approaches
• Proven ability to work independently and develop partnerships
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to use computers to convey information effectively
• Knowledge of communities of Masset, Old Massett and Port Clements and established contacts with relevant stakeholders in the community is highly desired
• Possess a passion for literacy and community capacity building

• 4% paid vacation per 12 months of employment
