A mission-driven organization in the Greater Danbury area is seeking a Nonprofit Accountant for a contract opportunity. This role requires prior nonprofit accounting experience and is open to accounting professionals at the Accountant or Senior Accountant level. The ideal candidate will bring strong general ledger experience, attention to detail, and familiarity with nonprofit accounting practices.

Job Responsibility

  • Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger activity
  • Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support month-end close and financial reporting
  • Assist with fund, grant, and program-related accounting activities
  • Track expenses and help ensure compliance with funding restrictions
  • Prepare schedules and documentation for audits
  • Support AP, AR, and other general accounting functions as needed

Requirements

  • Prior nonprofit accounting experience required
  • Previous experience at the Accountant or Senior Accountant level required
  • Strong general ledger and reconciliation skills
  • Experience with fund accounting or grant reporting preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel and accounting software
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment
