The Accountant will support the financial operations of a nonprofit organization, ensuring accurate accounting, compliance with donor and grant restrictions, and timely financial reporting. This role requires a strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, fund accounting, and regulatory requirements.
Job Responsibility
Maintain and reconcile the General Ledger using fund accounting principles
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and reclasses
Perform monthly balance sheet and income statement reconciliations
Track and report on restricted and unrestricted funds
Manage grant accounting, including expense tracking and compliance
Assist with preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP for nonprofits
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis by program or fund
Assist with annual audit preparation and required schedules
Support compliance with federal, state, and donor reporting requirements
Maintain strong internal controls and financial documentation
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
3–6+ years of accounting experience within the nonprofit sector
Strong understanding of fund accounting, restricted funds, and grants
Experience with month‑end close and financial reporting
Knowledge of nonprofit GAAP and regulatory requirements
Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, formulas, reconciliations)
Experience with nonprofit accounting systems (Blackbaud, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, QuickBooks Nonprofit, or similar)
High attention to detail with strong organizational skills
Nice to have
Experience supporting audits and Form 990 preparation
Grant budgeting and reporting experience
CPA or CPA‑track
Experience working with multiple programs or funding sources
