The Nocturnist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides care to complex acute, critical and chronically ill patients and manages the plan of care. The APP is experienced and works autonomously, as well as in collaboration with other health care professionals, to diagnose and manage patients' acute and chronic health care needs. APP patient coverage requires regularly scheduled nights, including weekends, holidays and on-call obligations. The nocturnist position is a full-time night commitment with a reduction in total number of hours per month when compared to day team members.
Job Responsibility:
Assesses the complex acute, critical and chronically ill patient for urgent and emergent conditions
Uses relevant data to evaluate for physiologic instability and formulate a plan of care
Performs therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems
Analyzes the indications, contraindications, risk of complications and cost-benefits of therapeutic interventions
Manages the plan of care through evaluation, modification and documentation
Manages changes in condition with a focus on optimizing patient outcomes
Facilitates the patient's transitions between and within health care settings
Serves as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff, and provider team
Acts as a consultant to multidisciplinary health care team members
Participates in scholarly activities including research and education
Participates in own professional development
Acts as a preceptor and mentor
Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety
Requirements:
NICU clinical experience is required
Graduate of a NLN accredited graduate program and NCC certification (for NNP)
Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited graduate program and NCCPA certification (for PA)
Nurse Practitioner or Physician Associate license in state of California
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) furnishing license
