Job Description

Under the direction and supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, the custodian performs various custodial duties and cleaning tasks in the UC Irvine Student Center and its satellite facilities.

Requirements

  • Ability to work well with the public
  • Ability to understand labels and instructions on cleaning solutions utilized in housekeeping as well as basic work instructions from supervisor
  • Ability to learn and implement security measures
  • Ability to clean bathrooms and kitchens
  • Ability to sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, polish, perform overhead cleaning, wash walls & windows, clean other building surfaces
  • Ability to use basic cleaning equipment: backpack vacuums, tank vacuums, wide area vacuums, upright vacuums, mops and brooms, extension poles, short ladders, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals
  • Ability to select appropriate chemical for the job, ability to mix and dilute chemicals appropriately, and handle chemicals safely
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Must accept a 5 day workweek that may include weekends, and include occasional overtime assignments
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization

  • Perform designated watchman rounds to ensure security and safety, check building systems for proper function, and update security logs
