Job Description:

The FOX Sports Digital Team is looking for an NFL Editor to join the team in Los Angeles. As NFL Editor, you will help direct our daily coverage of one of the team’s biggest priorities: the National Football League (NFL). The position will report to the Deputy Editor to help maintain an editorial calendar for the NFL while planning, assigning, and executing content and working to distribute it cross-platform. As marquee events arise, an ability to lead and assist in other sports will be expected.

Job Responsibility:

  • Support FOX Sports Digital’s content plans for the NFL and communicate the strategy throughout the digital group and other segments of the company
  • Work in-person with screening and social teams during NFL Sundays to facilitate compelling coverage off studio shows and in-game moments
  • Work across a team of editors, writers, and freelance contributors, sparking creative ideas and embracing new approaches to storytelling while identifying trending news items and providing constructive feedback to help writers grow and improve their craft
  • Work in partnership with the social team to extend the reach of NFL storytelling efforts, using social channels to grow the audience and engage users with compelling bite-size content
  • Work with the Deputy Editor to establish an overall editorial voice and tone for NFL content, especially as it pertains to editorial franchises and tentpole content
  • Coordinate NFL storytelling efforts for the FOX Sports App and FOXSports.com
  • Extend linear and digital video NFL content (editorial screening) into the digital space and surround it with complementary content, while developing relationships with production and working with marquee talent
  • Maintain overall editorial vision and content strategy for planned original content, embracing a truly cross-platform storytelling approach by blending the written word, video offerings, social content, and graphics to engage NFL fans with smart and surprising stories across various platforms with primary focus on website and app
  • Display outstanding news judgment, skilled storytelling abilities, thorough knowledge of digital best practices (including SEO, social platforms and content sharing) and a strong knowledge of journalistic principals and methods
  • Assist in updating FOX Sports Digital’s editorial calendar and content budget for NFL, planning for upcoming events, major milestones, and content themes
  • Utilize analytics, research, and other data to help shape the editorial strategy for FOX Sports Digital while living in the data and regularly tracking metrics
  • Collaborate with the design team to plan and execute all art for stories, including original photography, art, and informational graphics
  • Recruit new talent and develop existing staff

Requirements:

  • 5+ years editing NFL coverage
  • Experience directing content strategy and bylined writers and newsdesk contributors
  • Exceptional knowledge of the NFL and storylines throughout the league as well as diehard general sports knowledge
  • Able to strategically direct a team at a live event, solving problems and communicating messages throughout the team
  • Strong leadership skills, analytical skills, and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Availability after hours and weekends – the role will be tied to the sports calendar and major tentpole events, along with coordinating coverage as news breaks around the clock
  • Outstanding organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal/in-office skills
  • Adobe Creative Cloud proficiency

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge/experience in television and broadcasting
