An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist to join a highly specialised and well-equipped neurophysiology department in the East Midlands. This role offers exposure to a comprehensive range of advanced diagnostic neurophysiology services, working within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment alongside neurology, neurosurgery, and orthopaedic teams. The department provides both routine and highly specialised investigations, supported by modern equipment and a strong focus on service development and innovation.
Job Responsibility:
Perform and interpret: Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS)
Electromyography (EMG)
EEG (all modalities)
Evoked potentials and other neurophysiological investigations
Report on physiologist-led clinics and complex diagnostic cases
Deliver diagnostic services to: Inpatients
Outpatients
Primary care referrals
Provide expert clinical opinion and management guidance
Develop a subspecialist interest in: Advanced neuromuscular neurophysiology
Specialist EMG techniques (e.g. single fibre EMG)
Support expansion of: Advanced NCS services
Physiologist-led service delivery
Contribute to new service development aligned with departmental needs
Work closely with: Neurologists
Neurosurgeons
Orthopaedic consultants
Clinical physiologists
Deliver an integrated cross-speciality diagnostic service
Build regional clinical networks to improve best practices
Support service delivery within available resources
Prioritise workload based on clinical need
Maintain high standards of patient care and safety
Contribute to: Clinical governance
Audit and quality improvement
Departmental performance targets
Support UKAS-accredited IQIPS standards
Supervise and train: Junior doctors
Clinical physiologists
Participate in: Undergraduate and postgraduate education
Audit and research programmes
Contribute to continuous professional development within the department
Requirements:
GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT in Clinical Neurophysiology)
Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Expertise in: EEG
NCS / EMG
Evoked potentials
Ability to independently manage clinical cases
Strong understanding of: Clinical governance
Audit processes
Excellent communication and report-writing skills
Nice to have:
Higher degree (MD / PhD)
