Requirements

Irish Medical Council Specialist Registration (mandatory)
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience in Neurology
Proven expertise in neurological care, including both emergency and long-term condition management
Evidence-based clinical decision-making and diagnostic skills
Strong written and verbal communication abilities
Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams
Demonstrated commitment to patient dignity, safety, and high-quality care
Competence with IT systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and clinical electronic platforms

Job Responsibility

Provide expert neurological assessments and specialist consultations for inpatient and outpatient services
Lead the management of acute and chronic neurological presentations with sound, evidence-based clinical judgment
Participate in the on-call rota to support urgent neurological care needs
Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-focused neurology services
Educate and supervise junior medical staff, supporting continuous learning and development
Contribute to strategic service planning, quality improvement initiatives, and pathway optimisation
Maintain exceptional standards of communication with patients, carers, GPs, and clinical colleagues
Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
Demonstrate strong organisational, time-management, and prioritisation skills

Requirements

Complete registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise
CCT in Neurology or within 6 months of the interview
Appropriate specialist training and experience in Neurology
Ability to manage a broad range of neurological conditions independently at the consultant level
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
Demonstrable specialist interest(s) within neurology, aligned to service needs
Strong clinical judgement and decision-making skills
Excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork abilities
Commitment to teaching, supervision, and service improvement
Ability to work flexibly within a developing service model

Job Responsibility

Provide consultant-led care for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of neurological disorders across outpatient and liaison-based inpatient settings
Deliver timely assessment and management of neurology referrals, including advice to general medical teams via ward referrals
Participate in the neurology consultant rota, ensuring adequate service cover during annual leave and absences
Provide outpatient clinics, including specialist clinics aligned to the post holder’s subspecialty interests
Participate in an acute neurology clinic and a rotating “consultant of the week” model
Utilise day-case facilities for procedures such as lumbar puncture and planned infusions
Maintain high standards of clinical documentation and administrative practice
Participate in the education and training of junior doctors, medical students, nurses, paramedics, and general practitioners
Provide professional supervision and mentoring to trainees and junior staff
Support undergraduate and postgraduate medical education programmes

Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Neurology or within 6 months of CCT
