The purpose of this role is to provide fibre installation, repairs, fault finding together with general network maintenance tasks, providing a best in class quality of service for our residential and business customers. The role reports into the Network Engineering Supervisor, the engineer will gain experience in all field-based elements of a FTTx network, showcasing technical and professional experience to our customers as well as internally to support and grow the team within the business. These are likely to include critical splicing field work, testing, reporting and analysing for new and existing customers. Complying to health and safety standards at all times.
Job Responsibility
Supporting the Network Operations Manager in all areas, Installation, Services, Maintenance and Project work
Ensuring splicing, testing and reporting on our optical network is carried out to a standard as outlined by the Community Fibre - Standard Splicing and Testing documentation
Good understanding of WiFi and various broadband capable devices, networking and structured cabling within the customers premise
Good understanding of fibre terminology and able to communicate this effectively to customers as well as colleagues within the business
Well-presented and able to demonstrate a professional image as the face of the business
Self-motivated and able to work independently on a solo basis
Able to demonstrate empathy with customers and colleagues – personable and friendly
Calm under pressure and ability to work in a methodical way in a busy environment
Work alongside the Network Operations Manager/Engineers/Supervisors to ensure that all Network Operations programmes are achieved on time and to the full satisfaction of the customer while meeting SLA
Ensure that Community Fibre Health & Safety requirements are being adhered to, in accordance with the Company Health and Safety Management System, owned by the HSEQ Manager
Requirements
Fibre installation/splicing skills, experience within Telecommunications 1st and 2nd fix
Capable and confident working at heights
Working alone
Thorough working knowledge of a fibre network, built through significant job experience and training on site
Experience in splicing & OTDR testing - training will be provided
Experienced in Fault finding - training will be provided
Experience with fibre blowing Machines – training will be provided
Experience and qualifications in NRSWA. – training will be provided
BT Accredited splicing qualification
Ability to demonstrate understanding of Construction Design Management (CDM) and the Health & Safety requirements incumbent with such tasks
Ability to talk the ‘same language’ as civils and cabling contractors
IPAF licence desirable
