The Network and Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting enterprise network and server infrastructure. This role ensures high availability, security, and performance of critical IT services while collaborating with team members across the institution. This position also develops and manages structured training and feedback plans for network and systems administrators. Job Responsibility:
Design, configure, implement, and maintain network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless systems, and virtualization platforms
Monitor network performance, identify issues, and implement optimizations to ensure stability
Manage and troubleshoot core network protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, etc.)
Implement and maintain network security controls, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and access rules
Oversee and maintain wireless infrastructure to ensure reliable, secure campus‑wide connectivity
Maintain accurate network documentation including diagrams, configurations, and operating procedures
Administer and troubleshoot Windows and Linux servers
Manage virtualization environments, including host configuration and VM deployment
Implement and maintain storage solutions (SAN/NAS) and backup/recovery systems
Administer directory services (Active Directory, LDAP) and group policies
Manage system security, including patching, vulnerability management, and access controls
Monitor server performance and capacity to proactively address issues
Maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting
Support implementation of cybersecurity policies and regulatory compliance requirements
Participate in risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and incident response
Collaborate with IT staff and vendors to ensure seamless service delivery
Research and recommend new technologies to enhance infrastructure
Provide Tier 2 support and assist with escalated issues
Participate in IT projects from planning through implementation
Maintain knowledge of industry standards, technologies, and best practices
Adhere to all organizational IT policies and security guidelines
Requirements:
Associate degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience in network and systems administration
Hands‑on experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise networking hardware
Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs)
Experience with Windows Server (Active Directory, Group Policy, PowerShell)
Experience with Linux server administration
Experience with virtualization technologies
Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment
Excellent organization and attention to detail
Nice to have:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Network+, Server+, MCSA, MCSE, VMware VCP
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
Experience with scripting (Python, Bash)
Familiarity with ITSM frameworks (ITIL)
Experience with identity management systems and enterprise monitoring tools
