Job Description:

This is a highly technical position which provides telecommunication network management and support, integrating services such as ERP, internet, e-mail, e-commerce, intranet, and various web/browser applications across a variety of client/server platforms. The incumbent works on a wide array of systems and is responsible for the interfacing of operating systems and physical hardware within the City of Poughkeepsie network. A person in this position is responsible for the integration, programming and maintenance of the network subsystems throughout the City of Poughkeepsie infrastructure. In addition, the incumbent will assist in the investigation of new industry developments such as software alternatives, system productivity tools, design and programming methodologies, documentation approaches along with making recommendations for critical network design changes for current and projected departmental uses. This position will be responsible for the management of bandwidth and security over both the LAN and WAN connections to support VOIP convergence and OSPF redundancy over a dark fiber backbone. Network strategies for both infrastructure migrations and upgrades must be developed and communicated along with backup and recovery design and testing procedures performed on a semi-annual basis offsite. The work is performed under the general direction of a higher-level employee with a wide leeway in conducting project assignments and evaluations. Supervision is not a normal function of this position.

Job Responsibility:

Requirements:

Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or a closely related field and two (2) years of full-time work experience in systems network design, implementation, management and support in a LAN/WAN setting
OR: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or a closely related field and four (4) years of full-time work experience in systems network design, implementation, management and support in a LAN/WAN setting
OR: Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology Management or a closely related field and six (6) years of full-time work experience in systems network design, implementation and support in a LAN/WAN setting
OR: Professional level certification in networking from industry recognized standard such as CCNA/CCNP/Network+ AND seven (7) years of full-time work experience in systems network design, implementation, and support in a LAN/WAN setting
OR: An equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Possession of a valid Driver License to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at time of application and to maintain the position
