Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
Electroencephalographic Technologist registration (R EEG T) issued by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET)
Evoked Potentials Technologist Registration (R. EP T.) issued by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET)
Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist (R.NCS.T.) certification issued by the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists (AAET)
Certified Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM) certification issued by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET)
Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) registration issued by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)
Certified Long Term Monitoring (CLTM) issued by ABRET
Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Health Science or related field
No experience required EEG/EMU lab preferred
Strong well-developed communication skills are essential for this position

Job Responsibility

Performs and maintains competency in electroencephalograms and portable EEGs
Prepares patient for and performs exams and procedures
Performs procedures according to the laboratory standards and implements alternative methods and/or adjusts controls to obtain optimal recordings
Recognizes patient or environmental artifact on the study
Devises and standardizes neurodiagnostic tests for clinical use
May perform ambulatory EEG monitoring, EEG monitoring during intracarotid Sodium Amytal procedures (WADAS), Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMUs), Evoke Potentials and other modalities of testing based on site specific needs
May assist physicians with inpatient and outpatient department clinics with Nerve Conduction Studies and EMGs as needed
May assist in the OR during implantation of Stereo EEG
Performs Transcranial Dopplers (TCD) based on site specific needs
Troubleshoots equipment problems and communicates with biomed, manufacturer tech support or supervisor

High School Diploma or GED required
graduate from an accredited Neurodiagnostic program with 3 years of experience preferred
BLS required
EEG registry or eligibility for EEG registry preferred
Board eligibility for ABRET certification in EEG is required within 2 years of hire
completion of ongoing departmental requirements for EEG board registry preparation is required within 3 years of hire
Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills

Job Responsibility

Performs routine and complex electroencephalogram (EEG) procedures, nerve conduction studies (NCV), evoked potential (EP) and others, depending on specialty area training
Demonstrates knowledge of the equipment operator's manual and calibration procedures. Identifies and corrects basic equipment issues when they occur
Performs Neurodiagnostic procedures using appropriate test strategy, electrode montage parameters, and calibration
Obtains all relevant information from the patient's medical record history and progress notes, and transfers this to the technologist's report
Adopts methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal results, based on medical history, clinical observations, and diagnostic test findings
Adheres to the standards of practice for test recordings, as outlined by ABRET
Maintains complete and accurate record keeping, including history forms and archived records of clipped data
Assists with the technical operation of specialized Neurodiagnostic procedures including long term monitoring, evoked potentials, intraoperative neuromonitoring and others as appropriate in specialty area
Verbalizes and implements appropriate actions during the onset of a seizure, and other patient medical emergencies
Demonstrates proper infection control practices throughout all aspects of care
