Job Responsibility:

  • Adheres to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building
  • Meets patient care standards to optimize patient outcomes
  • Promotes a safe and supportive environment during transport for all passengers in the transport vehicle, i.e., patient, crew and drivers
  • Provides respiratory therapies following age-appropriate standards of care and departmental guidelines
  • Performs and maintains competency for point-of-care testing, as assigned, ensuring compliance with WFBH policies and with applicable state and federal regulations
  • Completes documentation requirements for patient record and billing
  • Reports information to relief personnel to ensure continuity of care for the patient
  • Provides educational enhancement to allied health practitioners
  • Ensures age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served
  • Attends all required in-services, staff meetings, and team conferences

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an AMA approved two or four year program for respiratory care, or satisfies the requirements in the admissions policies of the NBRC for registry examinations
  • Two years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Two years' clinical experience with critical care patients (neonatal / pediatric preferred)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Licensed to practice as an RCP in the state of applicable state
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) OR Pediatric ITLS
  • Strong oral, written, and listening communication skills
  • Ability to provide direct and indirect respiratory care
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks under stress
  • Ability to demonstrate and perform advanced practice skills including: Endotracheal Intubation, Arterial Puncture, arterial sampling from indwelling lines, Umbilical Catheter Insertion, Needle Chest Decompression, Intraosseous Cannulation and External Jugular Cannulation
  • Ability to demonstrate and perform competencies with administering NCRCB approved pharmacologic agents

  • Perform all duties stated in Registered Respiratory Therapist-Critical Care job description
  • Provide family-centered care to infants from birth to pediatric patients during inter-hospital transports
  • Initiate emergency protocols independently following ACLS, PALS, NRP, and STABLE guidelines
  • Practice in accordance with the philosophy, policies, procedures and standards of the hospital
  • functions within the guidelines of the protocols and order sets for the transport program that are reviewed and agreed upon by medical directors
  • Communicates effectively with team members
  • This position functions as an expert resource for direct care throughout the system and supports all staffing levels
