An excellent opportunity has arisen for a compassionate, skilled, and motivated Neonatal Nurse to join a dedicated Neonatal Unit team within the South West region. This role is ideal for nurses who are passionate about delivering high-quality, family-integrated care to some of the region’s most vulnerable babies, while working within a supportive environment that prioritises training, development, and progression.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver high-quality, holistic, and evidence-based nursing care to infants within the Neonatal Unit
Act as a named nurse, ensuring continuity of care from admission through discharge planning
Support babies and families through family-integrated care models, empowering parents as partners in care
Safely administer medications and maintain competence in all neonatal clinical procedures
Promote a safe, warm, and welcoming environment for infants and their families at all times
Assist in discharge preparation by working closely with the Community Neonatal Outreach Team and other relevant services
Provide health education, guidance, and emotional support to families
Maintain accurate, clear, and timely documentation in line with NMC and local standards
Use the Patient Administration System (PAS) accurately and responsibly
Supervise, support, and guide junior nursing staff, learners, and colleagues
Ensure all prescribed treatments are carried out and communicate changes in a patient’s condition effectively
Promote and maintain patient safety, adhering to all clinical governance, incident reporting, and audit processes
Use allocated resources responsibly and effectively, ensuring good time and equipment management
Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement, and risk management initiatives
Work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
Keep personal practice up to date through CPD, training, and reflective learning
Participate in annual appraisal, mandatory training, and performance reviews
Support the training, teaching, and supervision of students, new starters, and junior staff
Act as a preceptor for newly qualified nurses where required
Contribute to formal and informal teaching sessions, including simulation-based learning activities
Promote evidence-based practice and assist in developing research-based clinical guidelines
Work within infection prevention and control guidelines at all times
Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures relevant to the role
Undertake other duties as required in line with service needs
Requirements:
NMC Registered Nurse (Child/Adult Branch, depending on neonatal pathway)
Neonatal or newborn transferable clinical skills
Experience working in acute or paediatric environments applicable to neonatal care
Nice to have:
QIS Specialist Neonatal Qualification / Neonatal Foundation Programme
Previous experience within a Neonatal Unit or Transitional Care setting
