DSRD Necropsy/Histology Technical Specialist has the competency to perform all aspects of rodent and non-rodent routine necropsy and histology procedures with minimal guidance/supervision. The individual has started to branch out into more complex pathology techniques, scientific principles, and/or data handling. Understands, complies with and applies Necropsy/Histology goals, SOP’s and guidelines including all regulatory, EHS, and IACUC requirements. Possesses specialized knowledge in veterinary anatomy and histology that he/she uses to support daily tasks.
Job Responsibility:
Execute necropsy/histology techniques directed by study protocols (regulatory, exploratory, and investigative)
Perform all assigned routine necropsy and histology tasks in a timely manner and in agreement with the SOP and guidelines
Communicate with the pathologist and the pathology laboratory manager to ensure proper collection, handling and submission of specimens as well as proper handling of all supportive documentation
Ensure proper use and preventative maintenance of equipment and laboratory space
Ensure full traceability of his/her work and of the specimens
Follow standard procedures to complete tasks and maintain quality and compliance guidelines
May adapt standard procedures by applying knowledge and experience to accommodate non-standard endpoints and to increase efficiency, throughput, and quality
Independently lead and execute multiple laboratory-based projects with minimal supervision, applying established protocols, maintaining data integrity, and ensuring compliance with scientific and regulatory standards
Demonstrate, reinforce, and may coach others on necropsy/histology techniques, regulatory requirements, such as GLP, and animal welfare
Requirements:
HS Degree (or equivalent) with 4+ years relevant experience
A.S. degree (or equivalent) in a related field with 3-4 years relevant experience
B.S Degree (or equivalent) in a related field with 2-3 years relevant experience
Good Laboratory Practice proficiency
Strong technical knowledge and skills of relevant disciplines (i.e. histology, anatomy)
Able to apply necropsy/histology technical skills across a variety of species for toxicity studies
Ability to work both independently and as a team daily
Nice to have:
≥ 5 years of relevant experience in necropsy and/or histology
HT/HTL (ASCP) certification or eligible
