Job Description

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminium manufacturing solutions.

Job Responsibility

  • Re-certifications must be obtained and maintained in accordance with NAS-410 and Spirit's internal procedures
  • Assist in training as applicable to job roles
  • Must be willing to cross-train and qualify as Level II in multiple non-destructive inspection disciplines
  • Must be willing to participate and perform work instructions during an audit
  • Use and interpret drawings, inspection procedures, mathematics, precision measuring instruments, specialized inspection machines, imaging software and any equipment necessary to accomplish work assignments
  • Experience working with Quality Management System Policies and Procedures
  • Working knowledge of Company Policies, Procedures and Specifications
  • Overall working knowledge of production manufacturing processes
  • Good communication, written and verbal skills
  • Ability to utilize various stationery and/or portable handheld inspection equipment
  • Verify that tools and equipment are calibrated and qualified
  • Evaluate inspection results from data (manual or computer generated) to determine if component meets the governing customer specification(s)
  • Follow Inspection (shop) procedures to accept or reject processes/parts/assemblies
  • Prepare and maintain Quality records
  • Conduct daily operations and present yourself in a professional manner

Requirements

  • Must meet the Level II training and experience requirements of NAS-410
  • 40 documented classroom hours with previous Level 1 Certification
  • 80 documented classroom hours without previous Level 1 Certification
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Ultrasonic inspection
  • Must be able to pass a near vision Jaeger No. 1 eye exam at no less than 12 inches
  • Must be able to pass an Ishihara Color Perception exam
  • 800 documented experience hours (On Job Training)
  • Must be willing and able to work any shift
  • Must have at least basic computer skills
  • Candidates may be required to perform a practical evaluation using Sonatest or Olympus EPOCH 650
  • Must be able to lift, move and locate parts weighing up to but not to exceed 50 pounds
  • All Candidates must pass the WorkKeys Assessment or provide verification that they have passed the WorkKeys Assessment

Nice to have

Applicants with training and experience in the following NDT methods will be highly considered: Radiography, Eddy Current and Penetrant testing

  • Performs the duties of an NDI Level II Technician IAW NAS-410 and JBA-EA-2741 and is certified for specific techniques in a given method of non-destructive inspections for aircraft, engines, and ground support equipment
  • Performs both on and off equipment maintenance
  • Performs certified tasks with minimum supervision
  • Performs non-destructive inspections of aircraft, engine components, and ground support equipment, using ultrasonic, eddy current, fluorescent penetrant, magnetic particle, and optical inspection techniques
  • Performs NDI testing, including that associated with TCTO related inspections, IAW applicable technical data
  • Notifies maintenance personnel regarding the extent and location of each defect detected during NDI activities and documents each defect on applicable forms
  • Uses and inputs data in Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS) computers
  • Accomplishes process controls and performs operator maintenance of assigned NDI equipment
  • Accomplishes joint oil analysis program analysis in support of the Department of Defense as a regional laboratory encompassing approximately 18 agencies and 560 different oil-wetted components
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable safety, housekeeping, tool control, and FOD prevention programs
