The Naval Architect will support the implementation of various projects through design and analysis while working closely with Operational and Technical groups as well as vessel management and crew. This is not so much a design heavy role, rather a practical shipyard position where you will be needed at the shipyards for inspections and assessments.
Job Responsibility:
Contribute to the initial design phase and conceptual framework for new capital equipment
Evaluate incoming project specifications and perform comprehensive technical feasibility studies
Facilitate systematic evaluations of equipment groups to ensure peak operational readiness
Direct technical support and oversight for complex, non-routine equipment decommissioning or storage
Oversee large-scale structural repairs and maintenance cycles during scheduled downtimes
Manage the upkeep and scheduling for specialized internal structural coatings and linings
Provide real-time troubleshooting and engineering support for remote field operations
Utilize advanced CAD and specialized engineering software to develop precise architectural schematics
Interpret complex data sets and experimental results to inform engineering decisions
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering
Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in a related position
Open to candidates coming out of university from a Naval Architecture program
Proficient with AutoCAD 2D, Rhino 3D, Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
Able to create and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Capable of identifying and resolving problems in a timely manner
Ability to analyze and interpret technical information and drawings
Nice to have:
Advanced knowledge and understanding of the Great Lakes Seaway System is an asset
