Job Description

This is a senior-level position for the Department of Environmental Quality, Abandoned Mine Land Division. This position is responsible for supervising all clearance processes of the Abandoned Mine Land Division prior to the execution of field reclamation and construction activities. Lander, Wyoming, offers an amazing quality of life in a small-town setting.

Job Responsibility

  • Supervise all clearance processes of the Abandoned Mine Land Division prior to the execution of field reclamation and construction activities
  • Act as the single Point of Contact for site clearance requirements
  • Obtain Authorization to Proceed (ATP) from the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSM) for projects
  • Use and report for the enhanced Abandoned Mine Land Inventory System (e-AMLIS)
  • Mentor, train, and aid Abandoned Mine Land Division staff
  • Coordinate with the Projects Supervisor on project workload assignments and clearance needs
  • Oversee and supervise the inventory work and the Statewide Contracts Coordinator
  • Coordinate between Projects Supervisor, Program Manager, and Administrator on Program Principle Workload
  • Participate in handling issue escalation and conflict resolution with assigned staff
  • Manage Abandoned Mine Land Division 5-Year Project Plan and the clearance work needed
  • Manage and oversee all communications with federal partners
  • Maintain compliance with Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 (SMCRA) and OSM requirements
  • Oversee all ATP work for OSM
  • Manage and update the eAMLIS database, AML Statewide Inventory Database, and development of new inventory efforts

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (typically in The Sciences)
  • 1-3 years of progressive work (typically in The Sciences) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Natural Resources Principal
  • OR 4-7 years of progressive work experience (typically in The Sciences) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Natural Resources Principal

Nice to have

Preference will be given to candidates with a science education and with knowledge and experience in exploration, development, mining, and reclamation activities, as well as those who have familiarity with Abandoned Mine Land Division statutes, regulations, and policies

  • Develop and manage the policies, programs, priorities, and processes of the division as a member of the Division’s regional leadership team (comprised of the Regional Manager, Asst. Regional Manager, District Managers, and Field Supervisors) to accomplish the Division’s and Department’s mission and vision.
