An opportunity now exists for a commercially astute National Transport Manager to lead and transform the transport function, positioning it as a key driver of both performance and competitive advantage. About the role Reporting to the General Manager and sitting on the Senior Leadership Team, this role will lead the national transport strategy across a large, geographically dispersed network. You will be accountable for delivering safe, efficient, and commercially optimised transport operations, while driving a step-change in productivity, utilisation, and profitability. This includes resetting pricing frameworks, lifting market connectivity, and embedding a disciplined, data-led approach to performance. This role goes beyond operational leadership — it requires a leader who can think commercially, influence across the business, and position transport as a strategic lever for growth, customer value, and market differentiation.
Job Responsibility:
Lead the national transport strategy across a complex, multi-site operational network
Deliver productivity, utilisation, and cost optimisation outcomes, including clear performance metrics (e.g. $/km, revenue/km, fleet utilisation)
Reset and embed pricing frameworks to ensure sustainable profitability and commercial discipline
Drive technology adoption, including Transport Management Systems (TMS), to enable real-time visibility and optimisation
Partner closely with Sales to grow volumes, improve fleet utilisation, and enhance customer value propositions
Strengthen market connectivity, including backloading strategies and alternative contracting models
Lead major commercial initiatives across pricing, customer engagement, and service delivery
Build and lead a high-performing, geographically dispersed leadership team
Champion a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance
Deliver data-driven insights to inform decision-making, forecasting, and strategic planning
Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Sales, Finance, and wider business units to align on customer outcomes
Contribute at SLT level, influencing enterprise-wide strategy with both commercial and operational perspectives
Requirements:
Senior leadership experience within transport, logistics, infrastructure, or heavy industrial sectors
Strong commercial acumen across pricing, cost optimisation, margin management, and revenue growth
Proven success in driving productivity and utilisation improvements in large-scale operations
Experience implementing systems and technology (e.g. TMS) to enhance performance and visibility
A track record of leading and developing high-performing, geographically dispersed teams
The ability to influence across functions and align sales, operations, and customer outcomes
Strong strategic thinking combined with disciplined execution and delivery
Experience operating at executive or senior leadership team level
