The Transport Workers’ Union of Australia (TWU) is one of Australia’s leading campaigning trade unions, holding some of the biggest companies in the world to account over their treatment of workers, such as Qantas, Amazon and the supermarket giants. With a hugely ambitious and exciting work program ahead we have recently expanded our team. We are now looking to fill some final key roles as we implement this program across the country. We are looking for union officials that are creative, hard-working and strategic to join our dynamic team. We know we must keep disrupting the status quo to keep bringing about real reform for transport workers to ensure they have a powerful voice.
Job Responsibility:
Support the development, coordination and execution of the national campaign plans
Assist in the implementation of growth strategies
Support the training, development and mentoring of organisers and delegates
Coordinate action and assist stakeholder activity and outreach
Assist with lobbying and political outreach
Assist with industry and sector bargaining to build and consolidate power
Work with the communications team to develop worker communications and media opportunities
Liaise with staff in other departments of the union to achieve success for the campaign
Build and manage relationships with staff in TWU state branches
Other tasks and responsibilities as directed by the National Secretary and Assistant National Secretary
Requirements:
Proven track record as a union organiser or campaigner
A willingness to understand and implement union growth and sector consolidation strategies
Some experience in training, developing or mentoring officials or delegates
The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Strong communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write reports and draft internal and external communications
Good IT communications skills, including experience with Excel and digital communications
An interest in learning how to lead other team members
A commitment to labour values
Nice to have:
Experience with supply chain campaigning, training or development
