Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and visionary National Engineering Manager to lead our engineering design function and play a pivotal role in shaping Coates’ national strategy for engineered solutions. Reporting to the General Manager – Engineering Solutions, this role is based at Ingleburn, leading a small team and overseeing the delivery of technical expertise, engineering services, and compliance standards across the business. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic influence, ensuring Coates continues to provide innovative, compliant, and cost-effective solutions for our customers.

Job Responsibility

  • Driving an uncompromising Safety-First culture across the organisation and customer relationships
  • Designing and drafting engineered temporary works solutions using Coates’ fleet of equipment, ensuring functionality, compliance, and alignment with Australian Standards
  • Providing onsite engineering services, including inspection, testing, and technical support
  • Managing the delivery of engineering certifications, leveraging both internal and external chartered engineers
  • Developing best-practice, cost-effective designs that meet legislative and environmental requirements
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance and expand Coates’ technical offerings in line with market trends and customer needs
  • Building strong industry presence by representing Coates through professional memberships, industry networks, and trade shows
  • Leading, coaching, and developing a high-performing team with a focus on accountability, performance, and growth
  • Ensuring full compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety protocols

Requirements

  • MIE Aust, CPEng, NER & RPEQ qualified in Civil & Structural discipline
  • Civil and/or Structural Engineering Degree qualification as recognised by the Institution of Engineers Australia
  • Extensive experience delivering engineered solutions within construction, infrastructure, or industrial sectors
  • Strong knowledge of legislative, environmental, and compliance standards relevant to temporary works and equipment design
  • Demonstrated success in leading technical teams and fostering a high-performance culture
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to balance innovation, safety, and cost-efficiency
