Job Description:

Do you want to build worker power, win campaigns, and shape the future of our work and life for manufacturing workers? At the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU), we have a new Strategy and Blueprint for Action with ambitious, high-impact, member-led campaigns at the centre. We are looking for an experienced National Campaigns Officer to play a key role in leading and delivering ambitious campaigns that build worker power and deliver wins for our members – from campaigns to win on workplace issues and safety, all the way through to comprehensive campaigns for housing justice, a living wage and economic sovereignty. Working as part of our new national campaigns team, you will design and run campaigns across industries and issues, mobilise AMWU delegates and members, and build strong alliances across the union movement and beyond. This is a new position, and an opportunity for a motivated candidate with the skills and experience we’re looking for to be part of shaping a bold program for change. If you share our vision and you’re ready for the challenge, then we want to hear from you.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead national or industry campaigns from planning to delivery
  • Mobilise members and delegates to take action on key issues
  • Deliver engaging campaign communications and messaging
  • Build alliances with unions, ACTU, community, and political stakeholders
  • Develop and implement national campaign plans that align with AMWU objectives
  • Lead campaign projects from planning through to delivery and evaluation
  • Increase union membership in target sites/industries
  • Organise and mobilise members and delegates to actively participate in campaigns
  • Deliver campaign messaging and content across a range of platforms
  • Conduct industry, political and social research to inform campaign priorities
  • Report on campaign progress, risks, and opportunities to the National Campaigns Coordinator and leadership team
  • Build and maintain alliances with unions, ACTU, community and political partners
  • Represent the union in public forums and coalitions as required
  • Mentor organisers, workplace leaders and activists, supporting their development in campaign delivery
  • Ensure campaigns integrate with broader union organising and bargaining strategies

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in union or movement campaigning
  • A track record of delivering campaigns that grow and mobilise membership
  • Strong strategic, communications, and organising skills
  • A commitment to union values, collective action, and social justice

Nice to have:

  • Experience in conducting strategic research, complex mapping, to independently plan and deliver detailed organising or campaign plans
  • Experience working in alliance campaigns
  • Understanding of Australian political, legal and civil society contexts
What we offer:
  • Monthly RDO
  • Hybrid work from home / office model
  • 12.5% superannuation
  • 17.5% annual leave loading (pro rata basis)
  • Additional Christmas shutdown leave
