Do you want to build worker power, win campaigns, and shape the future of our work and life for manufacturing workers? At the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU), we have a new Strategy and Blueprint for Action with ambitious, high-impact, member-led campaigns at the centre. We are looking for a National Campaigns Coordinator to build our new National Campaigns Team and lead this work – from campaigns to win on workplace issues and safety, all the way through to comprehensive campaigns for housing justice, a living wage and economic sovereignty. This is a new position, and the opportunity for the right candidate to make their mark and build a program from the ground up.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead national campaigns that win on the issues members care about most
  • Organise and mobilise delegates and members to take action and build strong union structures
  • Coordinate and mentor a national team of campaigners
  • Build powerful alliances with other unions, community organisations and political leaders
  • Provide strategic advice and leadership to the National Secretary and union leadership team
  • Lead the development, coordination, and delivery of national campaign strategies aligned with union goals
  • Analyse industry, social and political trends to identify opportunities for effective campaigns
  • Oversee the integration of organising, mobilisation, communications, political, corporate, and community campaigning
  • Ensure campaigns drive union growth and strengthen delegate and member structures

  • Build capacity through training, development, and systems to support campaign delivery
  • Implement performance review and conflict resolution processes to support team development
  • Coordinate resource allocation across campaigns to maximise impact
  • Lead mobilisation of delegates and members, ensuring active participation in campaigns and union decision-making
  • Support the development of strong member structures centred on organising and action
  • Deliver political messaging that builds activism and aligns with union objectives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including unions, ACTU, media, civil society, and government
  • Represent the union publicly, contributing to the national voice of the AMWU
  • Generate engaging content to support campaign messaging and communications
  • Provide clear and regular reporting to leadership and governing bodies on campaign progress and outcomes
  • Make policy recommendations based on campaign insights and analysis
  • Ensure alignment between campaign activity and broader union strategy

Requirements:

  • Proven union or campaigning experience (5+ years), with at least 2 years leading teams or campaigns
  • Strong skills in organising, strategy, and campaign delivery
  • Experience motivating and mobilising members and delegates
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships across diverse groups
  • A deep commitment to union values, collective action, and social justice
  • Inclusive leadership style that fosters growth and collaboration
  • High personal resilience and ability to manage workload and competing priorities
  • High level verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to engage with workers, delegates and AMWU officials to implement effective programs

Nice to have:

  • Experience in conducting strategic research, complex mapping, to independently plan and deliver a complex and detailed organising or campaign plan
  • Specific experience leading and designing alliance campaigns
  • Proven understanding of Australian political, legal and civil society contexts
  • Experience navigating politically sensitive environments
