We're supporting a growing commercial organisation in Peterlee to appoint a National Account Manager who will take ownership of key national customers and drive profitable, sustainable growth. This is a high-impact role sitting within the Commercial function and reporting directly to the Commercial Controller.
Job Responsibility:
Owning and developing strong relationships with key national retail and wholesale customers
Leading annual commercial negotiations including pricing, terms, and promotional agreements
Acting as the primary commercial contact for category reviews and supply collaboration
Building and delivering annual Joint Business Plans (JBPs) aligned to company strategy
Managing full P&L accountability for assigned accounts (revenue, margin, volume & trade spend)
Identifying growth opportunities through distribution expansion, NPD launches, and promotions
Using sales data, customer insight, and market trends to inform strategic decisions
Delivering accurate demand forecasts in collaboration with supply chain
Monitoring trade spend to ensure strong ROI across promotional activity
Working closely with Marketing, Finance, Category, and Supply Chain teams
Leading internal account reviews and presenting performance updates, risks, and opportunities
Supporting innovation and product development with clear customer insight
Ensuring commercial agreements are effectively executed in-store and online
Monitoring compliance with agreed terms and resolving issues quickly
Driving excellence in activation, pricing accuracy, and customer engagement
Requirements:
Proven experience managing national retail or wholesale accounts
Strong commercial acumen with full P&L ownership
Experience delivering Joint Business Plans and leading annual negotiations
Advanced negotiation and value-based selling capability
Strong forecasting and budgeting experience
Confidence presenting to and influencing senior stakeholders
A data-driven approach, ideally with CRM and sales analytics experience
Excellent communication and reporting skills
Experience in senior sales leadership roles (e.g., National Sales Manager, Regional Sales Manager, Head of Sales) is highly advantageous
A degree in Business, Marketing, Management or similar is desirable, though equivalent commercial experience will be considered
