Job Description:

Oversee the safe, efficient and productive operation of the mining pits under the direct supervision of the Production Manager or Production Team Lead.

Job Responsibility:

  • Visibly support and champion Peabody’s Mission and Values

  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and situations arising in open pit mining operations
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate work with Plant, Maintenance and Dispatch
  • Abide by and ensure compliance with all Company rules and guidelines and all applicable state and federal laws
  • Directly supervise and mentor hourly employees dedicated to the crew. This includes setting annual goals and managing career development with those individuals
  • Manage the time collection system
  • Conduct crew meetings/trainings
  • Conduct weekly safety audits and complete safety interactions
  • Assist with administration of the performance management process
  • Other duties as assigned by the Company

Requirements:

  • Formal education in engineering or minimum of five years of surface mining experience
  • Must have prior experience (minimum one year) as a Supervisor or Crew Lead in a surface mining operation
  • Must have or be willing to obtain Mine Foreman’s Certificate within one year
  • Ability to direct employees in a safe, efficient and productive manner
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience of heavy equipment operations including: shovels, draglines, RTD’s, blades, dozers, haul trucks and scrapers
  • Drilling and Blasting, Maintenance and Plant Operations either in a supervisory or operator capacity
  • Knowledge and understanding of mine planning, coal quality as well as Dispatch
  • Possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to recognize and develop skills and abilities in others
  • Ability to listen and encourage transfer of information, suggestions and concerns
  • Knowledge required of PPRS programs
  • such as Safety, Technician System, Corrective Action, Performance Management and effective supervisory practices
  • Ability to work with SAP, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 – 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
  • Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
