Job Description

We are looking for a Mutual Fund Accountant to support investment accounting activities for a long-term contract opportunity based in Bethesda, Maryland. This position is well suited for someone who is detail oriented and has experience in private market investing, with the ability to interpret investment-related documentation and maintain accurate financial records. The role will contribute to daily and periodic accounting processes while helping ensure reporting quality, control adherence, and operational accuracy within a financial services environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage accounting records for mutual fund and investment activities, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and on schedule
  • Review private market investment documents and apply their terms to accounting treatment, reporting, and record maintenance
  • Reconcile cash movements, portfolio activity, and related balances to support complete and reliable financial data
  • Monitor bond activity, corporate actions, and other investment events to ensure timely processing and proper accounting impact
  • Use accounting platforms and financial tools to analyze data, investigate discrepancies, and support ongoing operational needs
  • Assist with compliance-focused processes by maintaining documentation and helping align accounting activities with established controls
  • Prepare and support periodic reports, account analyses, and financial schedules required by internal stakeholders or clients
  • Partner with finance and operations teams to resolve exceptions, improve workflow accuracy, and support changes affecting investment accounting processes

Requirements

  • Experience in investment accounting, including exposure to mutual fund or financial services environments
  • Working knowledge of private market investing and the ability to interpret related legal or investment documentation
  • Proficiency with accounting software systems and familiarity with financial platforms such as Bloomberg Terminal or similar tools
  • Understanding of cash activity, bond accounting, corporate actions, and core accounting functions
  • Ability to analyze large data sets, identify inconsistencies, and support informed resolution of accounting issues
  • Knowledge of compliance expectations and controlled financial processes within a regulated environment
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a long-term contract role
