We are seeking a passionate, energetic, and skilled Middle School Choral/General Music Teacher to inspire students through music education. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of music educators who are actively engaged in curriculum development and professional learning through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). This position focuses on developing students' vocal and musical abilities, with a strong emphasis on creativity and cultivating a lifelong passion for music in all its forms. The teacher will nurture students' musical growth through engaging instruction, exposure to diverse musical styles and traditions, and meaningful performance opportunities. Our schools and community strongly support and value the arts, recognizing the important role music plays in fostering creativity, confidence, and connection. Students regularly participate in concerts, community events, and music festivals, and the music teacher plays a key role in preparing students for these experiences while helping them develop a lifelong appreciation for music. We are looking for an educator who is excited to build a welcoming and engaging choral and general music program that supports students of varying interests, skill levels, and musical backgrounds.
Job Responsibility:
Plan and deliver engaging choral and general music instruction aligned with district curriculum, state standards, and program goals
Develop lesson plans and instructional activities that support students' understanding of musical concepts, vocal performance techniques, and music appreciation
Foster students' appreciation of music through exposure to a variety of musical styles, genres, and cultural traditions
Establish clear learning objectives and communicate expectations for student performance and participation
Utilize standards-based grading practices and proficiency scales to assess and communicate student learning
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs and abilities of diverse learners
Direct and rehearse student vocal ensembles and prepare students for concerts, performances, and community events
Support student participation in music festivals and enrichment opportunities
Monitor and support students in the proper use and care of music materials, equipment, and classroom resources
Maintain an organized and productive classroom environment that promotes creativity, collaboration, and respect
Collaborate with colleagues through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to support curriculum development and instructional improvement
Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues regarding student progress and program activities
Maintain accurate records including grades, attendance, and documentation of student progress
Participate in school events, professional development opportunities, and other activities that support the school community
Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required
Master's degree preferred
Valid Vermont Teaching License with endorsement in Music Education, or ability to obtain, required
Experience teaching choral and/or general music at the middle or secondary level preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of standards-based grading and proficiency-based learning systems
Experience directing student vocal ensembles or choral groups preferred
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional learning community
Nice to have:
Master's degree preferred
