The Multimedia Journalist will be responsible for developing and producing news content in written, video, graphic, and audio formats across St. Lucia Times’ digital platforms and assisting with the production of the daily newscasts.
Job Responsibility:
Use a mixture of text, graphics, audio, images, and video to create newsworthy content across St. Lucia Times’ digital platforms under specified deadlines
Shoot and edit video and still photos to complement stories
Write news and A/V scripts, lead-ins, and bridges as required
Collaborate with the production team to develop and produce ongoing “special series”, special reports, documentaries, and other compelling audio/video news packages based on major breaking news and current affairs developments for digital platforms
Produce thought-provoking features that demonstrate a deep understanding of the issues tackled
Gather and present information for live reports for newscasts that could include mornings, nights, and weekends
From time to time, fill in for general assignments as required
Represent St. Lucia Times in community-related and other public and private events
Coordinate with news personnel to develop stories that go beyond surface details, accentuate unique enterprise angles, and have exclusive content
Develop a network of sources who provide tips, early access to information, and allow for breaking stories of significance
Review copy and correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting standards before submission
Ensure that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
Work occasional nonstandard hours to cover breaking news and travel as necessary
Consistently comply with company policies, procedures, processes, and deadlines
Performing any other reasonable and related duties as delegated from time to time by the Executive Chairman or his nominee
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related degree, or equivalent years of work-related experience
Videography and photography experience are preferred
Knowledge of camera equipment, editing, and streaming software
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to ad-lib when required
Knowledge of search engine optimisation (SEO)
Superior on-air presence
Ability to juggle multiple stories and projects simultaneously, demonstrating exceptional time-management skills by meeting all deadlines under extraordinary pressure
Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
Valid driver's license with a good driving record
Ability to work varied shifts, including nights and weekends
