Job Responsibility:

  • Sets up and utilizes all MRI equipment including imaging coils, patient monitoring systems, and related articles
  • Evaluate image quality by troubleshooting scanner or coil problems and scan parameters
  • Identifies and compensates for imaging artifacts
  • Reviews MRI registration and screening form thoroughly in order to confirm safe access into magnet room
  • Assists in training new MRI technologists and students
  • Performing all filming, archiving and PACS network data management for each patient scanned
  • Retrieves old MRI data for restoration and filming or networking
  • Master new techniques with each subsequent scanner upgrade
  • Maintains CE credits and ARRT/NYS license
  • Communicates all pertinent patient information to necessary staff
  • Identifies patient service requirements
  • Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed
  • Prepares patient for radiological/MRI procedures by positioning patient
  • adjusting immobilization devices
  • moving equipment into specified position
  • adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors
  • Performs procedures by following and verifying referring provider orders
  • Applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures
  • Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation
  • Prepares and maintains accurate documentation
  • Maintains production and quality of MRI images by following established standards, orders, protocols and procedures
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors by adhering to MRI safety policies specific to our MRI Zones
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements
  • Troubleshoots and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance
  • At an advanced level, may train new employees or lead day to day work activities

Requirements:

  • Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology
  • Maintains current NYS licensure and ARRT certification with CE credits as required
  • For Band Two: Minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience in a clinical or hospital environment with at least 6 months dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department
  • certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging
  • capable of performing all MRI competencies including but not limited to: cardiac, breast, interventional and functional MR if applicable
  • For Band Three: Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in MRI in a clinical or hospital environment with 1 year dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department preferred
  • certified in MRI
  • satisfy the requirements and be capable of performing all MRI related duties of a Band Two Certified MRI Technologist
  • comfortable operating many of the various platforms that exist within the UR MRI environment
