Job Responsibility

  • Competently operates magnetic resonance (MR) equipment used to perform basic and intermediate diagnostic procedures
  • Obtains medical history from patients, compares requisitions to physician's orders, prepares and administers contrast media
  • Positions patient and selects proper scanning factors, adjusts factors, provides magnet protection and safety
  • Post-processes images and accurately identifies and labels images
  • Maintains records, enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, documents billing codes
  • Identifies equipment performance issues and performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served

Requirements

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT)
  • or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)
  • or Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) registration and certification issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 2 years
  • and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology
  • No experience required
  • Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and magnetic safety
  • Competent in IV and venipuncture (if required by facility)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist
  • lift up to 20 lbs. over the head
  • carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance
  • push/pull with 30 lbs. of force
  • perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
  • Must have clear speech, vision and hearing

  • When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice
  • Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate
  • Takes on call shift responsibilities as required by the department
  • Charges appropriately for all supplies used for procedure and utilizes appropriate exam codes
