Job Responsibility:

  • Positioning and immobilization of patients and proper selection of protocols along with computer reformatting of acquired data to obtain magnetic resonance scans of optimal diagnostic quality
  • Responsible for securing pertinent history from patient, patient’s chart, or family member to provide the radiologist with adequate information for exam interpretation and to ensure procedure criteria is met
  • Compliance with established department safety standards to ensure patient’s and staff’s well being at all times
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate levels of medical supplies/inventory required to meet the procedure volume
  • Responsible for keeping abreast of current magnetic resonance imaging protocols and emerging technologies
  • Provides instruction and assistance as required to staff associates and/or students as appropriate

Requirements:

  • 2 year Radiology or MRI program graduate ARRT or ARMRIT
  • Completion of formalized MRI course at Junior College level or above or equivalent
  • Must be able to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated
  • Basic knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and knowledge of MRI/MRA clinical protocols
  • Knows and understands MRI physics
  • Knows and understands MRI safety
  • MRI Board eligible
  • CPR Certification
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance

  • Competently operates magnetic resonance (MR) equipment used to perform basic and intermediate diagnostic procedures
  • Obtains medical history from patients, compares requisitions to physician's orders to ensure ordered exam accuracy, and prepares and administers contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist
  • Positions patient and selects proper scanning factors, adjusts factors to attain the appropriate images, and provides magnet protection and safety in accordance with regulatory agencies
  • Post-processes images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images identifying patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images
  • Maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges
  • Identifies equipment performance issues and performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff and evaluates new products and equipment
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures
