Competently operates magnetic resonance (MR) equipment used to perform basic and intermediate diagnostic procedures
Obtains medical history from patients, compares requisitions to physician's orders, prepares and administers contrast media
Positions patient and selects proper scanning factors, adjusts factors, provides magnet protection and safety
Post-processes images and accurately identifies and labels images
Maintains records, enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, documents billing codes
Identifies equipment performance issues and performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures
Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
Requirements:
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT)
or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)
or Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) registration and certification issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 2 years
and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology
No experience required
Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and magnetic safety
Competent in IV and venipuncture (if required by facility)
Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills
Ability to work independently
Intermediate computer skills
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist
Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. over the head
Must be able to carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance
Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force
Must be able to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
Must have clear speech, vision and hearing
