We at Randstad are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Monitoring Engineer to join the Instrumentation and Monitoring (I&M) team for the HS2 S1 and S2 projects. This critical role is responsible for the full lifecycle of geotechnical and structural monitoring, from initial equipment supply and installation to final data interpretation and presentation to the client. The Monitoring Engineer serves as a technical bridge between site operations and project management. You will work closely with client representatives, subcontractors, and the public, requiring a personable, confident professional who can operate under pressure in a high-profile infrastructure environment.
Job Responsibility:
Lead the supply, installation, and commissioning of geotechnical and structural instrumentation
Produce detailed Commissioning Installation Reports upon completion
Collate and interpret monitoring data via gtcvisual
Provide expert fault-finding skills and technical troubleshooting for on-site equipment and software
Produce robust Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and Activity Briefings (RAMS)
Manage and supervise subcontractors during equipment installation and survey activities
Manage operatives effectively to maximize performance, safety, and motivation on site
Responsible for purchasing specialized equipment and hiring materials required for your specific work area
Attend data meetings and present complex monitoring information to the client in a clear, concise manner
Act as the primary interface between site supervisory staff and client representatives
Maintain high standards of interaction with the public
Maintain a strong appreciation of the contract cost structure
Demonstrate a clear understanding of risk and opportunity management within a contractual framework

Requirements:
Deep understanding of geotechnical engineering and I&M best practices
Proficient in AutoCAD, Excel, and project management software
Familiarity with contract conditions and the ability to report contractual changes effectively
Excellent writing and presentation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
Self-motivated, resilient under pressure, and committed to Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
CSCS Card Holder (Mandatory)
CPCS Appointed Person Card (Essential)
Experience specifically within large-scale civil engineering projects (Rail or Tunneling experience highly advantageous)
