The Molecular Genetics Lab Assistant is responsible for supporting laboratory operations by preparing reagents, specimen processing, cleaning and maintaining equipment, keeping accurate and detailed records, and assisting in other housekeeping tasks.
Job Responsibility:
Pick up daily specimens from the accessioning department and sort them for testing
build assay batches in Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
perform DNA extraction
perform DNA quantification and quality control
monitor reagents and supplies inventory for all laboratory workstations, re-stock as needed
receive inventory shipments
follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to prepare reagents, and perform reagent quality control and phase-in
perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance (PM) procedures and update PM logs
assist in resolving pending and problem sample lists
manage hazardous waste disposal and waste labeling
monitor Nitrogen gas tank levels and order/receive new tanks as necessary
cross-train and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab
assist Molecular Genetics Technicians as needed, and perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
prior lab experience and/or 2-, 3- or 4-year degree in Science-related field preferred
laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and operating lab instruments preferred
knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Genetics procedures and equipment helpful
general science background

positive, can-do attitude
knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) as appropriate
